Who is responsible

Mila is published by Patrik Berggren, who is the controller for the personal data described here. Contact: the contact form at https://milacoach.app/support.html.

What Mila reads on your phone

With your permission Mila reads health data from Apple Health: workouts, heart rate, HRV, resting heart rate, VO₂max, sleep, blood oxygen, respiratory rate, sleeping wrist temperature, weight, body composition, activity, walking data and, if you log it, your menstrual cycle. This data is read and analysed on your phone. Mila never writes to Apple Health. If you turn on sessions on Apple Watch, Mila puts the coach's runs in the Workout app on your watch; that happens on the phone and nothing about it goes through Mila's server. The same goes for the coach's sessions in your calendar if you turn that on: Mila writes only its own events to the calendar you choose and reads no others.

What leaves your phone

To write your coach texts, Mila sends a short summary of your training and health (for example weekly distance, recent workouts, form, recovery, sleep, blood oxygen, body measurements and, if you log it, where you are in your menstrual cycle) together with your own description of yourself and your goal to Mila's server. The summary is used only to write the text: weekly texts keep it in a queue until they are written, at most about a day, and then it is cleared. The coach texts, your description, your goal and a coach profile derived from it are stored on your account. If you connect Strava or Polar, Mila stores the access tokens and the workouts it fetches, with heart rate, pace and GPS route, and from Polar also your sleep and nightly recharge (night-time HRV, heart rate and breathing rate). If you allow notifications, Mila stores your phone's push address to tell you when weekly texts are ready. Race courses you upload from a file or link are added to Mila's shared race registry, without your name; courses fetched from your Strava account are never shared.

Subscription

If you subscribe to Mila Coach, Mila stores the App Store transaction id, the product, the status and the expiry date on your account to know whether the subscription is active. Apple sends Mila updates when the subscription renews, ends or is refunded. Payment details are handled by Apple and never reach Mila.

Meal photos

A meal photo is sent to the AI model for assessment and then discarded. Mila stores only the estimated numbers and text, never the photo.

AI support

Messages you write to the support in the app are answered by an AI (Anthropic's model), not by a person, and the answer says so. With your message the app sends a few technical details about the app and its connections (such as app version, iOS version and which services are connected), not your health data. If the AI cannot help, or you ask for a person, the conversation is forwarded to Mila's support inbox, where a person reads it. The conversation is stored on your account for 180 days and then deleted. If a person at Mila answers, the answer appears in the same conversation.

Ask the coach

Questions you ask under "Ask the coach" are sent, with a summary of your training data and your most recent questions and answers, to Anthropic's model to write the answer. The questions and answers are kept only on your phone (the latest 20) and are deleted when you sign out. Mila's server keeps only the latest answer for about ten minutes, so it can be fetched again if the connection drops, and a count of how many questions you have asked.

Running form analysis

If you ask the coach to analyse your running form, your films are read on your phone and never leave it. The phone takes out still frames at key moments of your stride (at most 8 per angle), together with estimated measurements, and sends them to Mila's server. The frames wait in a queue until the analysis has been written, usually within a day and at most a few days if it has to be tried again, and are then deleted at Mila; the batch with them is deleted at Anthropic once Mila has collected the analysis. The written analysis is stored on your account so the coach can compare it with the next one. The analysis is a coach's observations, not a medical assessment, and does not replace a running analysis in a lab.

Location and weather

Your current location is used on the phone to fetch the weather forecast from Apple Weather and is not stored. Workouts fetched from Strava or Polar include their GPS route, which is stored with the workout on your account until you disconnect or delete the account.

You sign in with Apple. Mila receives an anonymous identifier from Apple and, if you choose to share it, your email address. Mila also keeps a token from Apple on the server, used only to withdraw the sign-in when you delete your account; it is deleted with the account. If Apple gives Mila your first name, it is kept only on your phone, as is any photo you choose under More → Account; neither is sent to Mila's server.

Who processes the data

Supabase (database and server functions, hosted in the EU, Ireland) stores your account data. Anthropic (USA) processes the training summary, your description, meal photos and the still frames for a running form analysis to write coach texts, and your messages to the AI support to answer them; Anthropic does not use the data to train its models. The transfer to the USA is protected by the EU's standard contractual clauses in Anthropic's data processing terms. Weekly texts are written through Anthropic's batch service, and each batch is deleted there once Mila has collected the texts. Apple provides sign-in, Apple Health, weather and payment for the subscription. Resend (USA) delivers e-mail: support conversations the AI support forwards to a person, and messages sent through the support form on Mila's website, are e-mailed to Mila's support inbox through Resend. Open-Meteo (Switzerland) receives only the coordinates of a race course that lacks elevation, to look up its elevation. Strava and Polar only if you connect them.

What Mila never does

Mila never sells your data, never uses health data for advertising or marketing, and never shares it with data brokers. Health data from Apple Health is only used to provide the coaching in the app.

How long data is kept

Data is kept while you have an account. Coach texts older than two years may be deleted. Conversations with the AI support are deleted after 180 days; one forwarded to a person is kept in the support inbox for at most 90 days. When you delete your account under More → Account, all data on your account is deleted from Mila's server immediately: description, coach texts, goal, connections, fetched workouts, meals, support conversation, push addresses and subscription status. Deleting the account does not cancel an App Store subscription: cancel it in iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Strava and Polar are told to remove Mila's access; if they cannot be reached, only what is needed to ask again is kept for at most four days. Courses you added to the shared race registry remain without any link to you. To limit how much the coach can be used per person, Mila keeps a count of coach requests for nine days (29 days for running form analyses), linked to your account and to a one-way code derived from your Apple sign-in. If you delete your account, the link to the account is removed, but the count stays for the rest of those days so the limit cannot be avoided with a new account; it is then deleted.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you may request access to, correction of or deletion of your data, object to processing, and receive your data in a portable format. Contact us at the address above. You can also complain to the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY).

Legal basis

Mila processes health data on the basis of your explicit consent, which you give when you allow Apple Health access and start using the coach. You can withdraw consent at any time by turning off access in the Health app or deleting your account.
